All About Cats
15 years for a cat is about 70 human years. A 3-year-old cats is already quite an adult animal, like people in their 20s.
CATS ARE INDEPENDENT, graceful, and secretive animals. They are one of the most successful carnivores (meat-eaters), equipped with sharp teeth for slicing up meat and strong claws for catching prey and climbing. The cat family is usually divided into two groups, known as big cats and small cats (which includes domestic cats). Wild cats live in forests, grasslands, or woodlands, but domestic cats are kept as pets worldwide.
ODD CAT OUT
The markings on lions’ coats are much fainter than the bold stripes or spots seen on other big cats. Lions also differ in their lifestyle because they live and hunt together in groups, known as prides.
COMMUNICATION
Cats communicate by means of sounds such as roars, snarls, growls, yowls, mews, and purrs. They also tell other cats to keep out of their territory by scratching trunks, spraying urine, or leaving droppings at certain places. By licking and rubbing against each other, they exchange scent messages.
Bendy Body
A very flexible spine and a loose fitting skin make it possible for cats to bend and stretch their bodies in many directions. This is useful when they pounce on prey and groom their fur.
Hunting
A serval can leap twice its own body length to catch birds. Like other hunting cats, it first sniffs the air to pick up the scent of prey. Keeping its body low, the serval moves silently and slowly toward its victim- this is known as stalking. Once the prey is within reach, the cat makes a sudden pounce using its powerful hind legs and holds on tight with its claws and sharp teeth.
