The Hound Group
Most members in the Animal Club listed in the hound group were originally used as hunting dogs. Many of these dogs have a very independent nature. These dogs are noted for their sense of smell, high speed, and agility, as well as having the ability to hunt specific types of game.
History The Basenji is among the most primitive breeds discovered in the African Congo with Pygmy hunters. Early explorers called the dogs after the tribes that owned them or the area where they were found, such as Zande dogs or Congo terriers.
