A donkey and a horse survive a fire on a farm
Dedicating your whole life to animals is not an easy task. It takes a lot of passion and determination, if you decide to lead a secluded life, in the countryside. Like Travis Ochs, a ranchero who lives on the edge of Geer Canyon Drive in Boulder, Colorado. He had these a donkey, a horse, two pigs and cows.
He left his home in a hurry due to a devastating fire. When the flames of the fire were about to lick the house on the ranch, Travis quickly got hold of his mother and sister, who lived with him, jumped into his truck and tried to save as many animals as possible. But the fire was too threatening: “I had no idea the fire was that close. I turned immediately. There were large pieces of burning wood falling all over the road.”
Before things got worse, Boulder County sent horse trailers to help all the ranchers in the area evacuate their ranches. But a problem had arisen for Travis. Adam, Travis’ favorite workhorse, was too big and tall to get in the trailer.
So, out of desperation and because there was no other choice in that emergency situation, Travis made an extreme decision: he left the horse Adam and his inseparable donkey companion, Ennis, behind. These two animals, who are both 14 years old, lived with their loving ranchero since they were only 6 months old.
Heart pounding, Travis thought he would never see them again, and that the flames would swallow them. However, the next day an unexpected surprise arrived.
The morning after the fire, the authorities returned to the scene and, despite the fire having destroyed all of Travis’ property, the horse and donkey were still alive and well, surrounded by scorched and blackened earth. Despite the dangerous emergency situation, they had helped each other and were finally saved!
Travis couldn’t believe his eyes: despite being in shock and hungry, they were in excellent condition!
Eventually Travis, with tears in his eyes, tenderly embraced his two favorite animals, so pleased that they had at least they survived the fury of the flames. A really miraculous escape from in a scene of total destruction, with their lives in tact.
